Love it you will.
There are some places that seem totally of another world. The Death Valley sand dunes is one of them. I'm no Princess Leia but I can totally see why they chose this spot for filming scenes from Star Wars and a number of other Hollywood films.
I realized this weekend that recounting our adventures through Death Valley, I totally forgot to show you the amazing setting at the Mesquite Sand Dunes. Years upon years of erosion and wind forming a mini-sand desert in the middle of the mountains.
Like a desert mirage, the sand dunes were deceivingly far from the road. What looked like a 15 minute trek suddenly turned into 30 minutes and we hadn't even made it half way to the massive star dune.
4 shoes filled with sand, two empty bottles of water and one cranky toddler, we stopped a third of the way there and took in the view.
And had a play in the sand.
Just like all the other breathtaking, other worldly-like settings in Death Valley, the sand dunes are so tricky to photograph well. Therein lies one of the biggest challenges of choosing photography as a hobby, the balance between taking in the moment with your eyes and capturing the moment with your lens.
Have you ever gone somewhere that was so hard to photograph as well as the eye can see it?
