You know that feeling when the universe just seems to be pushing you in a certain direction? When everything seems to work perfectly in your favor?
That is how it was when I met my husband, E.
The story of us is awesomely serendipitous. It's a long one, so I'll just leave you with this abbreviated version for now.
Seven years ago...
I was fed up with lame dates and clueless jocks. I swore off of dating.
Then I was lonely.
I got to know myself and what I wanted in life.
Then I made a list of all the qualities I wanted in a guy. No holds barred. Every, single, quality. No matter how absurd, it went on my list. Very Bridget Jones style.
Attitude Adjustment...
When I was done I read over the list and thought, "There's no way this guy exists."
I put the list away and eventual lost it. But rather than believe my initial thought, I began to wonder, why not? Why can't this guy exist? Why shouldn't I find the perfect person for me? I deserve to be happy. Surely there's a Mark Darcy out there for me.
Believing...
Every day I meditated on these qualities and focused on the great things surrounding me in my life.
I was going through some stressful times in my career. On my worst days I would come home after work and dance and sing to Freedom by George Michael at an embarrassingly loud volume.
Yes, definitely Bridget Jones style.
Receiving...
A few months later a Midwestern girl (me) had a chance encounter with a charming Englishman (E). I soon realized that he ticked nearly all the boxes on my 'list' and even a few extras I hadn't thought of.
See? Serendipitous (double word points!).
We fell in love. And not long afterwards, I achieved the freedom I had danced for all those nights after work. I moved overseas and started my new life with him and never turned back.
The result has been the best version of me I've ever been, a life I've always dreamed of and the most amazing partner to share it with.

Today I'm celebrating the best decision I ever made, marrying E 4 years ago.
PS - These amazing wedding day photos were shot by Dave Burlison and the backdrop is Pennyhill Park, where we were married in the UK. The stuff dreams are made of.
PPS - The wedding shoes have a post of their own...of course.
