Let me just preface by saying I don't consider myself a 'Mommy blogger'. I don't really fit perfectly into any well defined category. I blog to the beat of my own heart. I do (and blog about) what I love. So does lil man.
He may only be 17 months old but this little monkey has taught me so much. I'm 100% convinced I'm a better human being because of him. Here's why.
-- Find Happiness in the Small Things --
Seven years as a marketing professional in the Corporate world took a toll on me in ways I didn't even know until I left. Drained by florescent lights and air-conditioned cubicles, lil man arrived right when I needed him most.
I had almost forgotten how important it was to enjoy every animal cracker, find immense joy in the simplicity of jumping up and down on the bed, and laughing for no reason at all. It just feels good.
We are not promised a tomorrow. Toddlers have a way of reminding us that even the little things are worth celebrating right now. I only wish I hadn't taken things for granted as long as I had.
-- Have Patience : and then Have MORE Patience --
Patience stems from and extends to your child. Having a +1 all but forces you to up your patience level. You just have to learn to deal with things as they come and keep moving forward. From that, I appreciate and empathize with more people than ever before. This quote sums it up quite nicely:
"Be kind, for everyone is fighting a hard battle." - Plato
Those clever Grecians.
-- I Can Do Anything --
It sounds like a contradiction since first time parents often complain of feeling inadequate and generally have no idea what they are doing. Those sentiments definitely prevailed in the early days, but now my attitude has completely changed. I created this amazing being (with the help of Hubby of course). And now, dammit, I can do anything!
Being a parent is no joke. It's simultaneously the most difficult and rewarding responsibility in the world.
I'm learning something new from lil man all the time. I know it's just the beginning of great things to come.
What lessons has your +1 taught you?
