A Brief History of Cameras

30 years and the progression of the cameras in my life.

Okay well maybe not 30 full years. I didn't start using my own camera till around high school.

-1-  It all began with one of these bad-boys. The Kodak disposable.

Every summer I'd take one on our family float trip. Oh the anticipation of waiting for your film to develop after you got home from vacation.

-2-  Then there was a brief period of time with the early, entry-level digital. Images took about a minute to process; at least it seemed like it.

-3-  Splurge. The 'rents buy me my first SLR and sent me to a photography camp. This camera was amazing. I learned the fundamentals of manual photography and even won an award. You probably wouldn't believe it now huh?

Don't open the back cover before the film roll is finished!

-4-  Quick n' Easy. Affordable, easy to carry, no fuss, digital Panasonic Lumix. I had long since forgotten the art of manual photography so I cheated and bought this. I never loved the photo quality but it served it's purpose.

-5-  iPhone. Does this even count? Best reserved for my Instagram musings.

-6-  And today, by special Fedex delivery, arrived the beast of all digital cameras. No, not a DSLR, but the second best thing in my humble opinion, the Sony RX100 MII. I've had my eye on this baby for a looong time.

--- Update --- I've had a chance to take some test shots of a very willing subject, some food, and beautiful spring flowers.

There is definitely truth to the saying that you don't have to have an expensive camera to take great photos.

However, I was getting frustrated with blurry shots every time I tried to take a photo of Lil Man, who runs faster than a roadrunner on crack. I also seem to have developed an affection for very dimly lit restaurants; great for photos of me, not so great for photos of my food (as you can see at the King+Duke).

The portable digital camera suits my lifestyle much better. So basically, I'm not lazy, I'm practical. At least that's what I tell myself.

I've only taken a few test shots so far and I'm giddy with excitement of the blog posts to come!

Now, time to eBay the Panasonic to remedy some of the price pain inflicted by my new toy.
