Holeman & Finch

Bacon Carmel Popcorn. Gratin of Bone Marrow. And a Crunchy Gentleman. Just a few of the unique items on our table at Holeman and Finch.

Maybe it's the fact that we don't get out much on our own these days. Maybe it's the desire to tap into our long-lost trendy side. Whatever it is, we've been choosing some trendy restaurants for date night as of late. Cue Holeman and Finch.

Who am I kidding. I'm not trendy. But that doesn't mean I don't like a fancy cocktail every now and again.

It really doesn't matter where we go. It's all about getting out and reconnecting. Back to the drinks...

Each cocktail has hand carved ice cubes by this fellow.

Yes, hand carved. The bartender tells us the ice is specially made to reduce air bubbles thus creating a denser ice which melts slower and keeps your drink cold longer. Some serious thought going into these drinks; and very little thought from us after consumption.

Too busy mulling over the many unique menu items. I think I'll pass on the Veal Brains for tonight thank you.

Most things are smallish so they recommend ordering tapas-style. Fine by me! I love trying a little bit of everything.

First up, pate. Two kinds. Duck liver and Goose liver. A good pate is hard to come by stateside.

You know it's good when you have to ask for more bread.

Now, I've heard about bone marrow as a meal, but never tried it. Out of this world.

I can only describe it as meaty butter. Mmmm.

E tucked in to a steak tartar.

I had hardly wiped the marrow from my chin when a Crunchy Gentleman arrived at the table. Otherwise known as the oh-so-delicious Croque Monsieur.

By now, you know how I am about desserts. I wanted desperately to try them all. I mean it's tapas style right? But sadly both E and I were stuffed so we opted for the Bacon Carmel popcorn.

Perfectly acceptable as a pre-dinner bar snack if you're in a hurry. Fortunately, we weren't.

Polished off.
