Stone Mountain

One of the things I love most about where we live in Georgia are the vast possibilities for a great day out. With sunshine and comfy shoes in tow we climbed Stone Mountain and I thought I'd take you along for the journey.

Stone Mountain stands tall as the world's largest expose chunk of granite. Doesn't quite look like the fancy countertops in your dream home does it?

You can scale the over 1600 ft. elevation by hoofing it up the trails or a lazy ride on the cable car.

I'd love to do the hike at some point but Little Man isn't quite up for that level of endurance. He can, however, run amok all over the summit.

Laters!

I got a workout just trying to keep up with him.

Funny how he calms down for a cuddle with E on the ride back down.

A little more history for you history buffs...Stone Mountain also has the world's largest bas-relief ('carving' in V speak) of famous Confederates; Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis.

At the base of the mountain is a little village which reminds me of Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. Shops, restaurants and candy stores...a kid's paradise. And purgatory on your wallet.

A few hours was more than enough for us followed by a stroll under the cherry blossoms back to the car.

You know me and my spring flower obsession.

Next time I think a picnic lunch sat in front of the mountain top view is in order.

What did you get up to this past weekend?
