$5 Beauty Secret

I'm always wondering how models and actresses have such flawless skin even without makeup. With $5 and a few items from the bathroom drawer, this is the single best discovery I've had all year.

You know those celebrity home tours on TV? It seems like each time they get to the bedroom they blurt out that cliché line; This is where all the magic happens!

Let's be honest, the real magic happens in the bathroom. What other room can you walk into looking an absolute mess and walk out looking like a million dollars?

Welcome to my bathroom folks, where all the magic happens (well some of it anyway). And where I've whipped up a simple little beauty secret for soft, smooth and more even toned skin.

A DIY Vitamin E night cream.

My little night cream packs a punch. Vitamin E is like a super oil of the gods:

- fights free radicals : anti-aging
- antioxidant : removes damaging agents
- anti-inflamitory : calms and hydrates
- repair and improve damaged skin : heals scars

I was tired of spending $50+ on creams and masks that would only dilute the 'good stuff'. So after a bit of research, I whipped up my own. It's silly easy...

It works brilliantly and best of all, it's super cheap and easy. Here's what you'll need (because some secrets aren't meant to be kept):

- Vitamin E soft capsules or oil.
- A very light weight face moisturizer, I use this Eucerin SPF lotion most days.

That's it! Oh, and a pair of scissors. You'll snip the end off of a single capsule to start.

Then squeeeeeze out all of the oil. About a nickel sized drop, just enough for your face.

Mix it with your moisturizer. This is important because Vitamin E oil is the consistency of honey. It's very thick and sticky. The moisturizer makes it easier to apply to your skin. Use as much or as little as you like.

Slather it on.

Get some Zzzzzz's. Let the Vitamin E work its magic overnight. When you wake up your skin will feel softer, smoother and within a few days discoloration will start fading.

This is when I kick myself for not taking 'before' photos. But here's a bug bite scar I've been working on for a few days now. It's looking miles better already.

See? Magic. In the bathroom! I can't wait to see what my scars look like in a month. Hopefully non-existent.

I feel a disclaimer coming on...as with most things, please test a small amount on your arm before smothering your face with Vitamin E. I'm not a doctor of anything so make sure you are not allergic and use in moderation. A good article if you want to read more about The benefits of Vitamin E oil for the skin : Livestrong.

What is your low cost beauty secret?
