3 Healthy (Yummy) Snacks

When I was in college I used to have this thing called the 'sandwich diet'. I'm sure you won't be surprised when I tell you it no longer works. It's taken me some time, but I've managed to find some shockingly yummy and healthy snacks. Yep, yummy and healthy.

If you've been reading my blog for any length of time I'm sure you've sussed out my biggest vice; chocolate. I give you exhibits a, b, c and d.

Nothing will scare a gal into some healthy eating and exercise quite like the first signs of swimsuit season. Fruit never keeps me full. Greens just aren't fun to eat (don't tell Little Man I said that). So here are a few healthy snacks I've found that really take the edge off of my junk food cravings.

// Greek Yogurt + Granola : 290-300 Calories

I'll be honest, I've always hated yogurt. It's the texture more than anything that sends my gag reflex into overdrive.

I'm always intrigued by all the great yogurt flavors they have at the store. Especially passion fruit, my favorite fruit. They're hard to come by on this side of the globe but Chobani makes it in yogurt form.

The granola, when mixed in, turns the yogurt into something more than tolerable....I'm actually craving this stuff! And it really fills me up for a while. Even better!

// Pistachios : 160 Calories

The price of these nuts will drive you nuts (har har), but they are so worth it. The time it takes to crack them open as I'm eating them tends to slow down my snacking which means my brain realizes I'm full before I've over eaten.

A far better choice than the cheese crackers I used to favor.

// FiberOne Bars : 90-140 Calories

I think we all know the importance of a good bit of fiber in our diets but who knew healthy(ish) fiber bars actually existed? Kinda sounds like a misnomer to me. But again, surprised I was to discover a healthy little snack that keeps my chocolate cravings at bay and my tummy happy.

// SmartFood Popcorn : 190 Calories

This was a happy little discovery on our recent vacation to the Florida Keys. The free mini-bar (yes, free!) was stocked daily with snacks including a yummy thing called SmartFood Popcorn. Definitely not something I would grab off the grocery store shelf by name alone.

I swap these 190 calorie snacks (per serving) out for the old chips/crisps at lunchtime. I'm totally hooked though. I'm planning to search for a jumbo bag at Costco next week.

What kind of great low-cal snacks do you like to chomp on?
