Let me rewind a bit. This past weekend I had a visit from one of my friends who is nearly 6 months preggers. So I whipped up a lemon drizzle cake for the occasion. With a bit of tweaking of The Londoner's recipe it turned out pretty good.
When I lived in England, I was the only one of our friends that didn't have a kid. Now that we're in the States I have friends looking to me for advice. No pressure; but I should probably tell them that I'm still trying to figure it out myself...
Little Man is coming dangerously close to the dreaded 'terrible twos'; although I keep hearing 3 is pretty rough as well. I'm not gonna lie, it hasn't been all purple flowers and lemon cakes recently. But when life gives you lemons I guess you just eat more lemon cake. And down a bubbly cocktail.
Sunday (Father's Day) started off innocently enough. I made chocolate croissants piled high with caramel and fresh raspberries. The raspberries make it less guilty right?
No amount of sugar could mask the fact that we were in need of a break so we scooted off for an impromptu date night leaving Little Man with our babysitter who surely earned her money that evening.
Off to the cinema to see The Edge of Tomorrow. I'm not a huge Sci-Fi movie fan (outside of Star Wars that is) but as it was Father's Day E got to choose. Besides, he had me at Tom Cruise.
The cinemas of today are a far cry from the cinemas of my childhood. I mean, check out these über posh concession stands and draft beers.
And the reclining cushy leather chairs are pure heaven. What fussy toddler?
Good thing too because the movie wasn't the best. Have you seen it? What did you think? I couldn't help but think that Tom is a tad past his prime in this genre...no?
It was a weekend of highs and lows. But all in all, we have far too much to be grateful for to get hung up on a few small speed bumps.
