A River Runs Through It

Not only the title of one of the best Brad Pitt movies ever, but a very apt title for our recent outdoorsy adventure. Grab some hiking shoes and let's go.

As glamorous as city life and urban lifestyle seems, I'm fairly certain I'd struggle to thrive in that environment. I'd miss the wide open spaces and quiet of nature way too much. You can take the girl out of the country...

Even when I lived in England, as busy as it was, there was always a park to escape to when needed. I've had the good fortune to live in places where I always have the sanctuary of nature nearby.

This past weekend we found a little gem near home. An old cotton mill with walking trails and a small river ideal for some dog paddling.

Feeling far too lazy for anything requiring effort, we picked up a Starbucks on the way and had breakfast al fresco.

Followed by a little jaunt down to the river.

A close encounter with some of the wildlife.

And a swim for one.

The only downside? I'm absolutely COVERED in bug bites! Me + humid Southern summers = misery. I suppose I can overlook it. I mean after all, how can I complain with this scene practically in my backyard?

I'll keep the urban glamour confined to the occasional vacation. It's far more appealing in small doses. Where do you go to get away from it all?

PS - If you have any home remedies for bug bites, by all means, share the love!!
