Visiting Egypt

'Out of all the places you've visited, what has been your favorite and why?' This is the question I love to ask everyone I meet. If I ask myself this same question, though impossible to answer with just one location, the answer has to be Egypt.

My response to this question always amazes E (my husband), because we've had the good fortune to visit some truly amazing places. Safari in South Africa, the ruins of Rome, the beaches of Mauritius, and so many more

How could I possibly choose Egypt as my favorite?

// It took me out of my comfort zone.

I can't say enough about taking yourself to places outside of your norm. It expands your mind and souls in ways no other venture can. I found myself in traveling, starting with the uneasiness of Egypt.

// It is a land of contradictions and surprises.

Surprise! There's a KFC and a bustling city a stone's throw from the foot of the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids. Who knew?

And where else can you watch a wedding positioned in that exact same spot (between KFC and the Sphinx)?

We spent the majority of our trip in Sharm el-Sheikh. Sandwiched between the driest dessert and the bluest ocean (Red Sea to be exact). I loved Sharm so much I wrote a post about it.

// The history leaves you speechless.

As I stood at the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza, I couldn't even find the words to express the reverential respect and wonder. This was one of few world wonders I had seen in person that truly exceeded any notion I'd gained previously from TV or literature.

How many places can you go that leave you awe struck?

// Endless amount of things to do and see.

You name it, it can be done in Egypt. Surf. Sea. History. Parasailing. 4x4. Wildlife. Endless possibilities which make for a lifetime of wonderful memories. I love holidays like that.

So even though it baffles E (my husband) to this day, Egypt really is (and probably always will be) one of the most memorable places I've ever been.

I would love to know, out of all the places you've visited, what has been your favorite and why?
