Afternoon Tea

Mini cakes. Endless tea. Glasses of champagne. And the man of my dreams. What's not to love about afternoon tea at the Ritz?

Well, not THE Ritz. That is the mecca of all Afternoon Teas (see for yourself).  This tea was at the Ritz Carlton, stateside and not too shabby for an American 'tea'.

Like Babymoons, the importance of date nights cannot be understated. One of the best bits of advice I have ever received was to never stop going on dates with your spouse.

A couple that checks in on Facebook together...

It was E's turn to plan the date and man, did he deliver! A full date day with each stop a complete surprise to an unsuspecting me. Stop number one was a stroll around Piedmont Park. Beautiful, but still very hot here in Atlanta so it was a brief visit.

When we arrived at the Ritz I was well pleased.

Although it took three clueless staff members to get us to our reserved table, this chariot of goodness made up for it.

Champagne and strawberries delivered via a fancy schmancy cart. Strawberries on wheels. With a terrific homemade cocoa whipped cream.

Dainty lil starters which we simultaneously ate and analyzed.

I chose the Jasmine tea. E chose....you guessed it....English Breakfast.

We sipped away with the utmost maturity and poise.

Pinkies up!

Just when I was forming skeptical thoughts about the quality of 'jarred' clotted cream (huh?), the first  tower arrived.

Followed by scones.

The clotted-cream-in-a-jar wasn't half bad. Half bad. But then, when you're comparing it all to The Ritz Tea well, then, most things will fall a bit short.

Tower number two, in all of it's sugary glory.

This is where things got sad. I've had better desserts from burger joints. All the edible gold flakes in the world can't make this dessert tower amazing.

Really though, I should be so grateful to have a leisurely afternoon tea gazing into these beautiful blue eyes.

Gold flakes or completely penniless, I'm happy just shooting the breeze with him. Speaking of gratitude, there's a whole load of it over at EmberGrey.

After a few more cups of tea, a nice long chat, and about 3 pee breaks it was time to wander off to the next stop on this epic 'date day'.

Oh the anticipation!
