I've been to some amazing places all over the world (Mauritius, Egypt, South Africa, etc.) but my U.S. travel list is shockingly short. Having a +1 (toddler for you new-comers) restricts our travel distance a bit when traveling without him.
My parents (absolute saints they are) have offered to housesit, dogsit and babysit for a week while E and I hop a flight to the Florida Keys. Yippeee!
Here is our list of things to do while in the Keys. I've never been though. So if you've been, please let me know if we're missing any must-do activities, food, or other things.
// Airboat in the Everglades
110% E's choice. Not mine. I've never been a fan (haha, pun!) of humid, swampy places but E really wants to check this off his 'to-do' list. BYOB and crocodiles it is!
// Drive the Overseas Highway
I hear it is just lovely. How could an elevated highway with endless ocean on either side not be scenic?! We're planning to drive the length of the Keys even though we'll be staying on Islamorada.
// Key West
Night parties, trannies, and loud music? Count us in! Sounds, um, eclectic... That's about the extent of our knowledge on the area. Very open to specific suggestions.
// Swimming with the Dolphins
Cliche? I don't care. Sounds absolutely amazing if you ask me; and since our swim with the dolphins didn't pan out while staying on Moreton Island in Australia, we figure this is our second chance at it.
// Spa and SCUBA
"You for SCUBA?" Ah, nope, not me. Too claustrophobic! That's why I'll be getting my 'spa on' while E is exploring the shipwrecks. Any good spa suggestions?
Have you been to the Florida Keys? Please impart your wisdom below!
